Finger Wave Fascination. The 1920s & 1930s Hair Style Trend

By | Candice Deville

As we await the premier of the new Baz Luhrmann version of The Great Gatsby, fashion is poised on the edge of a 1920’s and 1930’s revival. Over recent months I’ve seen the trend for 1950’s styled vintage weddings, taking a turn for the even more vintage; with the requests for finger wave styles becoming ever more frequent.

Candice DeVille prides herself on constantly working to perfect her vintage techniques, utilising old fashion and original setting techniques to achieve these authentic results. Although this is a style traditionally suited to shorter hairstyles, variations can be achieved for a long haired 1920’s look. When the “Bobbed” hairstyle first came into fashion, many a lady who didn’t wish to be seen as to modern in her everyday life, would create a pinned up style mimicing the fingerwaves at the front, and pin curling the back to achieve a stylish look.

The look showcased here, was created by Candice DeVille for a client with straight, layered hair that finished approximately 7cm below her shoulder line.

If you’re seeking the perfect 1920’s or 1930’s look for your special occassion, you’ve found the vintage stylist for you.
